Soul Boy Film Screening + Nothern Soul Allnighter
To celebrate the release of the first Northern Soul film SoulBoy, we pay tribute to the Wigan Casino by giving soulies young and not so young an incredible chance to party like its 1974 once again.
The dancefloor promises to be packed with spins, flips and backdrops as the Northern Soul classics are played by the best DJs around. The night will include appearances by the cast, surprise special guests and an exclusive preview screening of the film a week before it hits UK cinemas - the SoulBoy Allnighter is set to be a very hot ticket.
Taking place on Saturday 21st August at the Kings Hall in Stoke, the SoulBoy Allnighter will feature music from original Wigan Casino DJs Russ Winstanley, Kev Roberts and Dave Evison. Rounding out the DJ set for the 10 hours of floor fillers will be Keb Darge, Jo Wallace, Liam Quinn, Eddie Piller and Fun Lovin’ Criminals frontman Huey Morgan, who has a cameo role in SoulBoy. A coming of age story set against the backdrop of the Northern Soul movement, SoulBoy stars young British actors Martin Compston (Sweet Sixteen), Alfie Allen (The Kid), Nichola Burley (StreetDance 3D) and Felicity Jones (Cemetery Junction) and will be released in cinemas on August 27th.
SoulBoy has already received praise for its authentic depiction of the Seventies Soul scene not to mention the luscious costumes and incredible soundtrack. Chosen for its similarities to the Wigan Casino venue, the Kings Hall in Stoke provided the backdrop for club scenes in the film and therefore it seemed the natural home for the Allnighter. The event is being held in association with Screen West Midlands and Stoke-on-Trent City Council, who are delighted to welcome back the SoulBoy cast and crew for the launch.
Marc Wootton, Festival Development Officer at Stoke-on-Trent City Council, said “we are pleased that Stoke-on-Trent has played a major role in the development of this film and that we will host the premiere on home turf. Soul music still plays a big part in people's lives in the city, as evidenced by the amount of locals involved as extras. We're proud to have been involved and show our city's rich heritage and culture."
Dan Lawson, Head of Production and Development at Screen WM said: We’re delighted that following on from a barnstorming showing at the Edinburgh International Film Festival (leading the audience voting until the very last day), SoulBoy will get its public premiere at its rightful home in Stoke. The night promises to encapsulate what SoulBoy is all about: great music, great dancing, and people having a great time.Find out more about “Soul Boy Film Screening + Nothern Soul Allnighter”
