IdeasTap has launched Ideas Fund Shorts, £40,000-worth of funding to help young people realise their short film projects.  Eight awards of £5,000 are being offered to anyone aged between 16-25 to create a five minute short film.

Recognising the lack of funding for young people within the arts, and the endless application forms and hassle to secure what funding there is, IdeasTap created the Ideas Fund to make it easier for young people to get their creative projects off the ground.  Along with the website, www.ideastap.com, IdeasTap is dedicated to providing opportunities for up-and-coming creative talent.

Alongside the launch of Ideas Fund Shorts, IdeasTap is also launching the second round of Ideas Fund Innovators; ten awards of £1,000 for creative ideas from any discipline. The deadline for both funds is 29th March 2010.

Please find attached a press release containing further details about both Ideas Fund Shorts and Innovators, and details on how to apply.

If you would like any further information or images then please do not hesitate to contact me.

    Many thanks,
    Sam

SOS is searching Europe for the screenwriters and producers of tomorrow!

Are you a producer looking for emerging writing talent?

Are you a screenwriter looking to connect with producers and the film industry at large?

The SOS development programme is currently searching Europe for emerging producers and screenwriters.

    THE PROGRAMME

The course is divided into two parts. During the initial development 16 projects with writers are developed from a one page idea to a long treatment. The workshop will take place for one week in the UK during May, and will then be followed by two one to one development meetings specific to each project.

At the end of the initial period the treatment is submitted and from these projects 6 are selected to go forward to the final development phase. At this stage the 6 producers join the programme.

This second phase will see the long treatment developed to a feature length script, which will then be presented to financiers and key industry figures for feedback. The workshops for the final development phase will consist of 1 week in France, and 2 days in Belgium, after which there will be a final virtual one to one meeting.

Writers must be able to display the strength of their writing ability, but cannot have had more than one feature film produced.

Producers must be at the beginning of their career, and can have no more than two feature film credits as a Producer. This does not include Co-Producer credits.

The deadline will be the 26th February.

Director/film maker wanted for school-based outdoor carnival event

We are the Creative Cats at Broadheath Primary school. During the spring and summer of 2010 we are working on a carnival event that will come to fruition in our village on Wed 23rd June.

We want our children (139 of them) to have a much greater awareness of global and local cultural identity, so the carnival is themed on “around the world and around the corner”. We want it to involve all our pupils, parents and people from the village. We imagine that it will include dance, puppets, bad fortune telling, music, film and animations, good story telling, food and lots more…..

At the heart of it we want some kind of film or animation element- we thought of a film tent with some stories told on film. We are a multi-talented energetic staff and are all ready to pitch in and make lots of the creative elements with pupils and others. We want a creative leader, who has film or animation skills, who will work with staff and pupils to formulate and shape our creative work and help us to create an extraordinary event.

If you are this person, send The Creative Cats a short e-mail telling us about yourself and why you would like to do this with us. To head@broadheath.worcs.sch.uk and antony@antonywaller.com You can attach some photos if that would be useful.

This is about a 15-day contract, or thereabouts for a fee of £3,000.

The deadline for getting in touch is Friday 12th February.

The interviews by children and staff will be (Monday 15th March). You need to be CRB checked and have public liability to the tune of £5,000,000.

A special grant funding scheme has been established by the Birmingham Cultural Partnership to support cultural events which bring the residents of Erdington, Hodge Hill, Ladywood or Perry Barr together and which have the best potential for raising cultural participation in these four constituencies.

Approximately 15 project grants will be available ranging from £500 to £5,000 towards local cultural events which contribute to Birmingham's Local Area Agreement target for improving cultural participation.

The scheme will be in two phases and would-be applicants are requested to fill in and submit the pre-application form before the deadline. Proposals that meet the criteria will be asked to fill in a full application form and will be asked to seek a surgery with the Project Manager to discuss their project proposal prior to completing their final application form.

All enquiries should be made by email to simon.bennett@birmingham.gov.uk with "Local Cultural Events" and the name of your organisations in the subject line.
